This calculation uses modern research on cat aging, which shows that cats don't simply age at 4 or 7 human years per cat year. The aging process is more complex. Our Cat Year Day calculator uses a two-phase aging model based on veterinary research. The traditional "7 human years to 1 cat year" rule is now known to be an oversimplification that doesn't accurately reflect feline aging patterns.
According to the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), cats experience rapid aging during their first two years of life, followed by a more gradual aging process.
